Australian sports betting operator PointsBet Holdings Limited has issued a trading update for the first half of its 2027 financial year, forecasting a double-digit fall in revenue. The update was published on October 13 and covers the period from April 1, 2026, to September 30, 2026.

The company expects group revenue of AUD 113 million ($78.9 million) for the period. That would be a decline of roughly 16% compared with the same period a year earlier, when group revenue was about AUD 135 million ($94.2 million). PointsBet also expects a normalized EBITDA loss for the half in the range of AUD 6 million to AUD 8 million ($4.2-5.6 million).

PointsBet said the decline stems from its Australian business and gave two main reasons. The first is the continued strengthening of its compliance standards. According to the company, its highest-value client cohort showed a sustained trend of double-digit declines in turnover and revenue against the prior corresponding period throughout the half, which it attributed to proactive compliance actions. PointsBet said it believes these were important decisions given an increasingly complex regulatory environment in Australia.

The second reason is the company's deliberate choice to accelerate growth in mass market sports actives. PointsBet said this strategy can lead to short-term volatility in net win margins. It noted that consistent gains in mass market sports actives, turnover and structural net win margin compared with the prior period were offset by a negative variance in actual net win margin during the half. The company blamed adverse results across the AFL and other sports for that variance.

PointsBet said it will publish its full H1 FY27 report on October 30, 2026. The figures in the trading update are forecasts and may differ from the final reported results.
