A business based in Westbury, Nassau County, has claimed a $3 million top prize on the New York Lottery's Bonus Stars scratch-off game, the lottery has confirmed. The winner is listed as BEAC 1998 Limited Liability Company.

The company chose to take the prize as a one-time lump sum instead of an annuity paid out over a number of years. After withholdings, the $3,000,000 prize comes to $1,334,553. The winning ticket was bought at Charmy Creation Super Convenience, located at 129 Post Ave. in Westbury.

The claim is the second seven-figure lottery win from Nassau County within six weeks. Earlier, the Ronald Stuckey Revocable Trust of Freeport received a payout of $1,334,553 from a lottery game. That ticket was sold at Torres Deli & Grocery at 84A Broadway in Freeport.

Businesses and trusts, like many individual players, commonly opt for the lump sum. The money can be put to use immediately, for example to fund projects or investments, whereas an annuity depends on third parties making payments over several decades.

The two wins in quick succession could draw added attention to local retailers, which may see increased scratch-off sales as a result.
