Allwyn names Betsson's Fredrik Ögren as group CTO, with Brett Cross moving to lottery technology role
Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren, previously CTO at Betsson Group for five years, as its group chief technology officer. Interim CTO Brett Cross takes a newly created global lottery post and becomes deputy group CTO.
Allwyn AG has appointed Fredrik Ögren as its new group chief technology officer. Ögren joins from Betsson Group, where he held the CTO role for five years.
At Betsson, Ögren was responsible for technology strategy and for developing large-scale platforms that supported the company's international growth across several jurisdictions. That work included Betsson's recent acquisition of the Canadian B2C business of Rhino Entertainment Group.
At Allwyn, Ögren will report to Kresimir Spajic, CEO of Allwyn Digital. He will oversee the shaping and delivery of the group's technology strategy, which aims to create a more connected and efficient ecosystem. Allwyn says the goal is to support growth, reinforce its market positions and improve the customer experience across its portfolio.
Ogren said technology plays a critical role in creating strong player experiences, enabling innovation and supporting long-term business success. He added that he looks forward to working with colleagues across the group to build a more connected technology ecosystem and to strengthen its capabilities. Spajic welcomed the hire, pointing to Ögren's deep industry experience and his record of leading technology transformations. He said Ögren's expertise would be instrumental in building a more scalable technology platform for customers and partners.
Brett Cross, who has been serving as interim group CTO, will move into a newly created position as CTO global lottery and deputy group CTO. He will report directly to Ögren. Allwyn described the reshuffle as building a strong technology leadership team for the next phase of growth.
The appointment follows a period of rapid expansion at Allwyn. Spajic recently said that further M&A is on the horizon and that a number of discussions are under way, although he indicated there is no urgency to close a deal. The company has also made other senior hires in recent months. Former Playtech executive Francesco Rodano was named group head of responsible gaming, and former William Hill senior figure Phil Walker was appointed Allwyn UK CEO in August.
