Colorado man sues MGM Grand over alleged security tackle that left him with a brain injury
Denis Matthew Lanctot has filed a negligence and assault lawsuit against MGM Grand Hotel, LLC over a July 2024 incident. The company denies the allegations, and the case is still moving between courts.
Denis Matthew Lanctot, a Colorado man, has filed a lawsuit against MGM Grand Hotel, LLC, claiming a security guard at the Las Vegas property tackled him in his hotel room and caused a mild brain injury. The amount of damages sought has not been disclosed.
The case relates to an incident on July 5, 2024. According to the account in the complaint, security guards entered a women's restroom on the ground floor, which led a woman to scream. Lanctot says he went into the restroom to help his girlfriend, Tiffany Goldman, but security personnel told him to leave. The couple were then escorted to their hotel room and asked to collect their belongings and leave the property.
It is at that point that the parties' versions appear to diverge. Lanctot alleges that several security guards rushed at him without provocation and tackled him to the ground. MGM Grand has denied all allegations against the property and its staff.
The lawsuit names MGM Grand Hotel, LLC as defendant and lists claims of negligence, negligent hiring, supervision and retention, as well as assault and battery against unnamed security employees. Lanctot also seeks punitive damages, lost wages, legal costs and compensatory damages, among other relief.
Lanctot was taken by ambulance to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder and a humeral shaft fracture. The shoulder was reduced under sedation. He says he later needed extended, continuous care. Further diagnoses included a Bankart lesion, a Hill-Sachs deformity, and a mild traumatic brain injury with post-concussion syndrome.
His attorney presented estimated medical costs of $166,815.50 on September 3, 2026. The case has so far encountered procedural obstacles, with the complaint still being transferred between courts. The allegations have not been tested, and no ruling on liability has been made.
