The North Carolina Education Lottery has announced its first six-figure winner of the week: Sarah Caldwell, a Greensboro resident who claimed a $100,000 prize from a scratch-off game.

Caldwell bought a $30 MAX-A-MILLION ticket at Aly USA on South Regional Road in Greensboro. The game offers top prizes of $1 million, but her ticket carried one of the second-tier awards. According to lottery officials, she went to the lottery headquarters on Monday to collect the money and received $72,018 once taxes were withheld.

When the game was launched, it included 25 top prizes of $1 million and 10 second-tier prizes of $100,000. At the time of the report, 12 of the top prizes and 5 of the second-tier prizes had not yet been claimed.

The Greensboro payout follows a busy previous week for the lottery. The largest prize was $2 million, reportedly won by Willie McCluney of Cherryville on a $20 Ruby Red 7's scratch-off ticket sold at Delview Mart on Delview Road. McCluney chose a lump sum of $1.2 million and, after required tax withholdings, received $864,126.

Another notable winner was Judith Womack of Broadway, who won a Cash 5 jackpot of $674,860 in the October 17 drawing. She visited the Raleigh lottery headquarters on October 20 and took home $485,967 after federal and state tax withholdings.

The lottery also reported a $100,000 prize in Pasquotank County and a Cash 5 jackpot of $167,777 among its other large wins from last week.
