IGT brings first wide-area progressive Wheel of Fortune slots to Massachusetts via MGM Springfield
MGM Springfield has opened a Wheel of Fortune Slots Zone with 20 IGT wide-area progressive games, the first such titles in Massachusetts. Jackpots reset at between $200,000 and $1.1 million.
IGT and MGM Springfield have introduced wide-area progressive slots to Massachusetts, with the casino opening a dedicated Wheel of Fortune Slots Zone on its gaming floor. The area is set apart from the rest of the floor and holds 20 WAP titles running on IGT cabinets.
Wide-area progressive games are linked to a shared network in which jackpots are pooled across machines. According to the announcement, this structure allows for larger and more frequent top prizes. Titles at the venue include Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Reels Double Diamond, Wheel of Fortune Triple Gold Spin and Wheel of Fortune Triple Stars Gold Spin Deluxe, among others.
The jackpot values differ from game to game, but each one always resets to a figure between $200,000 and $1.1 million.
Ariam Aponte, Vice President of Casino Operations at MGM Springfield, said the property was proud to continue what she described as a tradition of firsts, becoming the first casino in Massachusetts to offer jackpots on IGT's Wheel of Fortune slot games. He added that the new zone differentiates the resort and brings jackpot opportunities that are new to players in the state.
IGT CEO Hector Fernandez said the launch gives players a new way to experience Wheel of Fortune slots as the brand marks its 30th anniversary. He noted that IGT helped shape the WAP category over decades of innovation and that the Massachusetts debut builds on that legacy while opening new opportunities for customers and their players.
The Wheel of Fortune slot series was first introduced in 1996. IGT says the games have paid out more than $3.6 billion in jackpots and created 1,200 millionaires. The company also holds a licence to produce Wheel of Fortune-themed games through 2034.
The launch comes as part of what the source describes as a recent scaling of operations by the two companies and their ambition to consolidate their position in the Bay State market.
