Responsible gambling organisation 1xCare has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federación Española de Jugadores de Azar Rehabilitados (FEJAR), a Spanish federation of rehabilitated gamblers. The agreement is the latest step in 1xCare's international expansion.

According to the announcement, the stated aims of the partnership are to prevent and reduce gambling-related harm, improve access to support, and advance responsible gambling education and practices.

FEJAR President Gerardo Rodriguez Velo said the organisation believes preventing harm requires a strong commitment to prevention, accessible support and the well-being of affected people and their families. He described the partnership as an opportunity to explore ways of strengthening access to support services while safeguarding FEJAR's professional independence and keeping the needs of beneficiaries at the centre of its work.

Both organisations placed particular emphasis on independence and safeguarding. The relationship between the gambling industry and the charities and research bodies that work on harm is often a central point in regulatory and political debates, which helps explain why the point was highlighted. 1xCare states that FEJAR will keep full responsibility for its professional methods, therapeutic processes and decision-making. It also says its support during the partnership does not depend on the endorsement of any commercial product or operator.

1xCare was set up earlier this year as the responsible gaming arm of Cyprus-based betting company 1xBet. Its chairperson, Simon Westbury, said responsible gambling is a non-negotiable commitment and that the partnership is built on independence and respect for FEJAR's expertise. He added that 1xCare's role is to help strengthen access to support for people affected by gambling-related harm, not to direct how that support is delivered.

The memorandum is described as an agreement to cooperate, and the source does not give details of funding, timelines or specific programmes under the deal.
